Suneet Sharma

Consultant

I am a non-profit governance specialist with a legal background. I currently work part-time as Governance and Membership Manager for the Association for Language Learning (a 3,500-member subject association) and take on consultancy projects alongside this focused-on charity registrations, Charity Commission engagement, governance builds for growing charities, and SORP 2026 readiness. I have a particular interest in identity-led charities.

I have a strong track record of Charity Commission approvals across registrations, constitutional amendments and a high-stakes Chair-to-CEO conflict-of-interest application. My governance framework work spans four charities where I built from a minimal baseline, drafting over twenty policies, three risk registers and compliance systems.

I write quarterly on charity governance for Charity Times and the Association of Chairs, and have published Eastside People’s SORP 2026 Guide. I panelled at Festival of Trusteeship 2025 and run the Sharma on Governance resource. Twice a trustee and a Deputy CEO of Governance, Risk and Compliance for identity-led charities and co-founder of the SEGA Europe LGBTQ+ Staff Network (Progression Advocate Award 2022; British LGBT Awards Top 10 ERG 2021), I am passionate about entrenching lived experience strategically inside governance frameworks.

Key Skills/Consultancy Specialisms:

Key projects:

Entity structure and locality-based expansion strategy for a £5m charity

Strategic advisory weighing entity options – CIO, charitable company, group structure and trading subsidiary – against a locality-based growth plan. Covered governance architecture, sequencing, regulatory paths and implications of each route.

Chair-to-CEO conflict of interest: Charity Commission prior written consent secured

Designed and ran an independent recruitment process with conflict-management safeguards for a small LGBTQ+ charity where a Chair sought candidacy for the paid CEO role. Secured the Charity Commission’s prior written consent to appointment.

Structural turnaround: CIC converted to CIO foundation after prior rejection

Led the conversion of a community interest company into a charitable incorporated organisation foundation. Including governance redesign, constitutional drafting and Charity Commission registration through to successful completion from an inherited initial rejection.
